If I can't get a reasonable price for the CLP-175, I may try to work out something with the dealer where I give them my slightly-used digital grand in exchange for a new digital upright. I may just sell the CLP-175 (digital grand), and then get a CLP-280 when I'm no longer reeling from the expense of the Schimmel. I may need to go without a digital for a while, though, and get an upright digital later on. Having a digital + acoustic is the way to go, because the digital will allow me to learn new material (as in repeat difficult passages) without wearing out hammers, as well as my wife's patience and sanity. I may delay the delivery for a couple of weeks because we don't really have the space for both pianos and I'm still trying to figure out what exactly to do about the digital grand. I compared it to some very nice Bosendorfers (way out of my price range) and really enjoyed playing both about equally, although each piano has its own unique character. But the NWS is indeed a fine, and finely crafted, piano. It wasn't quite enough to move me, which is why I wound up with a different brand. Different people place different value on that aspect. Then there is the case work! Indeed, the NWS is perhaps the most attractive piano I have played. Whether this was a factory prep difference or a components difference I cannot know for sure. The NWS pianos had a more responsive action to my hands, and the tone was cleaner and more crystalline. I do know that I have played them side-by-side with standard T models and I have come away believing that they were enough different to justify putting them in a different class. It's components are "pick of the litter." It is also put together by the best labor.Īll of this is "supposedly," because I have no real first-hand information. Apparently they are really strict about quality control on the NWS. I have never seen a 169 NWS, only 189 and 213.Īs far as I know, the big differences in the sound-producing portions of the piano are the soundboard and the hammers. I don't think they make three sizes of NWS. I suspect that 7-8 K differential can be negotiated down somewhat.
